HOW TO TELL IF THE CABLES ARE BROKEN
Broken cables in a garage door can affect how the entire garage door system works. A broken cable will cause an uneven distribution of weight, which strains the springs, rollers, tracks, and other components. Sometimes the cables will break suddenly and produce a loud snapping sound. In that case, you may notice that the door is difficult to open.
There may also be wires hanging loose from the door. A door that struggles to open may appear to have a working motor and springs intact, which is a good indication that the problem lies with the cables.
Sometimes, the cables get frayed before they break, which is another indication that you are about to have a broken cable on your hands. The cables can also come off the drums they are typically attached to. You’ll see that the cables are out of place, and the door may look crooked or lopsided. In addition to noticing something amiss visually, you may also notice that the garage door is off-balance, louder than usual, or has trouble opening. Since there are many possible reasons for your garage door malfunction, it can be difficult to figure out where the problem is coming from.
